West Metro Miracle League
Announcer: What you need to know!

If you sign up to be an announcer…..thanks! You are a HUGE part of our team.  If you can not make the game, please call Catherine Holmgren at 612-308-8277 or Lisa Adzick at 612-865-4621.

The announcer is like the master of ceremonies. We need you to be fun and animated, the kookier the better! This is big time for these kids!  Here’s an idea of how to do it.

  • Please be at the Miracle League field 15 minutes before the start of the game.
  • Find the Director of the Day and check in with him/her to let them know you are there.
  • Ask the director for the bullhorn or locate it in the equipment box.  Make sure it is in working order. This is what you will use to project your voice.
  • Get the player line up from each coach. This should include the players’ names, the positions they are going to play, and their buddies’ names. This information is usually available on the white boards posted by each dugout.
  • While the players are “warming up” get the coaches to bring in the Team Captain from each team for the coin toss. Let one of them toss the coin if they can. Make a big deal…….”Now from the Holmgren Royals – Team Captain Ian Richter will face off with the Team Captain from Callie’s Cardinals, Mac Haugen, for the coin toss”. Then announce who will bat first. Big claps and high fives for everyone!
  • The Director will signal you as to when to ask the coaches to line up their teams and their buddies on the first and third bases to start the game
  • Say, “Welcome to the West Metro Miracle League baseball game Today we have the Holmgren Royals playing  Callie’s Cardinals. We are going to announce the team line-up for today’s game!” Then announce each player and their buddies  (look at the whiteboard for names)– clap and make a big deal.
  • After you get through the roster say, “Now everyone let’s stand for the singing of our National Anthem by the Home team, Holmgren Royals!”  The Director for the day will have the CD player ready with the music and the Home Team & their buddies will lead the singing of the Anthem.  Have someone from the singing team hold the bullhorn.
  •
  • Next, get the home team out on the field and tell the catcher to get ready for the first pitch.  The Director will tell you the name of the fan who will be throwing out the first pitch.  Announce the fan, have them throw the pitch and then yell, “Ok, let’s play ball!”  Everyone claps and makes a big deal!
  • From here on out, it’s just calling the game in an enthusiastic way as possible!  “Up first from the Holmgren Royals is Ian Richter……..”  If you have some fun facts about Ian from the coach on the line-up sheet……say it.
  • Be really animated – make stuff up……talk baseball. The kids love it!
  • After about 1-2 innings of play – announce that we are going to sing the “7th inning stretch.”
  • The Away team & their buddies will lead the singing of Take Me Out to the Ballgame!
  •
  • After the “stretch”, call another inning or two depending on feedback from the coaches & director.
  • When the coaches give you the sign – just say on the bullhorn – “And that’s another day at the ballpark!
  • Please turn the bullhorn off and return to the equipment box or Director for the day.
  • Get a treat ticket from the coaches – go get a treat and give yourself a big pat on the back for making this a really FUN day for about 50 kids!
We hope it was for you, too!   THANK YOU!
If you liked announcing, be sure to sign up for another game—we’d love to have you back!
